W.Va. Gas Explosion Burns 5 Homes, Shuts Highway
Excerpt:Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper states flames are shooting 50 to 75 feet high. He states it's not yet clear whether anybody has actually been harmed. Sissonville Fire Chief Tim Gooch states clients at a nursing home not far from the blast near Sissonville are safe. Gooch states all the burning structures appear to be domestic. He states the heat and fire are so extreme that firefighters cannot get close. State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous states the blast occurred about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday. Crews are working to turn off the pipeline.
